Below we have put together information about various kinds of flowers ranging from the most common and popular wedding flowers to the more wierd and wonderful!

Amaryllis - tall flowers with thick green stems and large trumpet-shaped blossoms.  Amaryllis are available from December through to Spring and come in a variety of colours including; white, shades of pink, burgundy, crimson, red, pale yellow or green and ther are also some striped varieties.  Amaryllis make very effective table centres when grouped together and tied under the blooms to create an elegant topiary tree.

Anenomes - these pretty flowers have cup-shaped blooms in rich colours with pale green or black centres.  They are only available from December through to Spring and come in shades of pink, purples, white, magenta, and burgundy.

Anthurium - an upside-down heart shaped flower with a protruding spike.  These fabulous tropical flowers are available all year round and come in a variety of colours including; white, red, brown, green, pinks and purple.

Bells of Ireland - these are tall, apple-green spike flowers with several green shell-type blooms running along the length of the stem, with little white blossoms inside.  They are very effective when used in tall vase arrangements.  Bells of Ireland are available during spring and summer and are only available in green.

Calla Lilies - exquisite flowers that have long trumpet-shaped blossoms and thick fibrous stems.  Callas are available all year round and come in a variety of colours including - white, shades of yellow, orange, shades of pink and deep burgundy.  There is also a green variety called 'Green Goddess'.

Cosmos - these fabulous pretty little flowers are daisy-like and are available in summer and autumn.  They come in shades of pink, white, red, salmon and chocolate brown.

Celosia - Celosias are very unusual fan shaped flowers with a crinkly, velvety head.  They are very effective when integrated into an arrangement or bouquet.  They are available all year round excluding winter and come in red, burgundy, pinks, yellow and orange.

Cornflower - at last a blue flower!  Tiny vivid blue flowers on dainty stems, Cornflowers can add a pretty splash of blue to hand-ties.  They are available mainly in the summer months.

Delphinium - another blue flower!  Delphiniums are are tall flowers with lots of pretty blossoms running along the length of the stem.  They are one of the few blue flowers available with colours ranging from shades of light blue to a more vivid blue and also violet, purple and white.  Some varieties are available almost all year round, but they are best in season which is summer and autumn.  Delphiniums work well in shower bouquets, they also look great in tall table centres to give a country garden feel and they can be cut down and integrated into hand-tied bouquets to add a subtle hint of blue.

Freesia - Freesias are dainty flowers with fragrant blossoms.  They are cery pretty when integrated into a bouquet along side another main flower such as roses.  They are available all year round in most colours except blue.

Gerberas - Gerberas come in two varieties, the standard larger size and the smaller mini gerberas, which are ideal for buttonholes.  They are daisy-like flowers which come in a vast array of colours excluding true black or blue.

Gloriosa - the Gloriosa lily is a vibrant flower with very reflexed petals.  they grow on a vine and are usually sold as short stems with single blossoms.  They come in bright red with vibrant yellow stripes on the edges of the petals.  They are available all year round, but are expensive to buy, particulalry if you require a longer stem. 

Hyacinths - often an overlooked flower when it comes to weddings, these pretty blooms can look fabulous in bouquets and table arrangements.  They are tubular flowers with little pretty clusters of blooms that have quite a strong scent.  They are a spring bulb flower and are available from December through to Spring.  They come in shades of blue, lilac, pink and white.

Hydrangea - increasingly popular, Hydrangeas have large heads which consist of a cluster of pretty little blossoms.  Often seen growing in gadrens throughout the summer, they are available throughout summer and early autumn.  They come in many pretty colours including; white, green, pink, lilac, purple and blue with some two-tone varieties. 

Hypericum berries - clusters of berries on tall woody stems, available in red, burgundy, pale pink, green, peach and brown.  These berries are fabulous for winter weddings.

Iris - intensley coloured blossoms of an unusual shape, they come in deep blue/purple with yellow centres and also white with yellow centres.  They are available all year round.

Kangeroo paw - a very unusual flower originating from Australia consisting of little branches of paw shaped flowers which have a velvety texture.  Available in deep reds, yellow, pinks and orange.

Leucadendron - more of a foliage, this desert-like flower comes in striking deep reds, browns and greens and is very effective when integrated into a hand-tied bouquet.  Most varieties available all year round.

Lilies - Lilies are large, star-shaped flowers, often with highly scented blossoms.  They come in three main varieties which are; Oriental, Asiatic and Longiflorum.  Oriental liles come in shades of pink, cream and white.  Asiatic lilies come in more vibrant shades, such as yellow, orange and red.  The longiflorum lily is pure white,

Lily of the Valley - Lily of the Valley is a small white, bell-shaped buds on short, delicate stems, with deep-green, pointed leaves.  They are highly scenteed flowers and can be very effective grouped together on their own in a bouquet.  Unfotunately they are only available for a short period in Spring.

Lisianthus - (also known as Eustoma) are elegant cup-shaped flowers that bloom from thin, graceful, branching stems.  The come in two varieties - single-headed and double-headed (the single-headed being more cup-shaped and the latter being fuller and more rose-like).  Lisianthus are available in white, cream, lilac, deep purple, green, dusky pink and some two-tone colours sucj as white with a purple/pink edging.  They are available all year round.

Orhcids - there are many different varieties of Orchids in an amazing range of colours.  The most popular are Cymbidium, Dendrobium (Singapore) and Phalaenopsis (ther most expensive).  Orchids are available all year round and come in nearly every colours except true blue.

Peonies - large, lush blossoms with a sweet scent, they are bought in round buds and burst open to reveal multiple petals.  They are available from winter through to spring and come in white, shades of pink, peach, cream and deep crimson.

Protea - originating from South Africa, these unusual and stunning flowers come in a few different varieties.  There is the large headed pink proteas and the smaller pin-cushion proteas with spiky tops which come in orange and yellow.  They are available most of the year.

Ranunculus - pretty little bowl-shaped flower heads, a bit like a mini peony.  Ranunculus are available from winter through to spring and come in pinks, oranges, yellow, white and some two-tone colours such as white with a pink edge. 

Roses - the all time favourite wedding flower.  There are literally hundreds of types of roses available in a wide variety of colours.  It's best to ask your floirst to recommend a rose to suit your colour scheme and style.

Sweet peas - a delciate flower with pretty, ruffled blossoms.  They have a sweet frangrance and are available in white, cream, pinks, deep purple, lilac, and red.  They are available in spring and summer.

Thistles - (also known as Eryngium) hazy blue thistles which are available in a few different varieties all year round.  These are popular in buttonholes for Scottish weddings and can be very effective in bouquets and table arrangements for creating a more wild and country feel.

Tulips - Tulips are beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers that come in a multitude of colours.  They are available from December to Spring and the good news is they are inexpensive flowers when in season (Springtime).

Veronica - these are long pointy flowers which come in shades of purple, pink and white.  They are available most of the year and look funky in bouquets.
